CHIEF & COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENT OF TRUSTEES FOR THE MOOSE CREE FIRST NATION TRUST FUND
Following a careful process to recruit and select trustees for the Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) Trust, Chief & Council are pleased to announce the appointment of four trustees.
Independent trustees:
- Victoria Linklater-Hutchison
- Irene Tomatuk
- Derek Chum
Council representative trustee:
- Kathy Faries-Quachegan
The trustees have been appointed to serve according to the terms as set out in the MCFN Trust Agreement, which was approved by Membership in a ratification vote in December 2022. The trustees are MCFN members holding professional designations and many years of experience in various fields including finance, law, management, and politics.
The MCFN Council completed the process of drafting a Trust Agreement in consultation with Membership over several years prior to the ratification vote. The Trust Agreement sets out clear rules and procedures for the administration of the MCFN trust and it will be funded with a portion of the Self-Generated Revenue (SGR) from the Lower Mattagami hydroelectric project.
The next step in the process is to retain the services of a corporate trustee to work alongside the appointed trustees. A corporate trustee is a trust company authorized to exercise corporate trust powers, having a combined capital and surplus of at least fifty million dollars and subject to examination by federal or provincial authorities.
The trustees will be interviewing potential corporate trustees in the next few weeks and plan to provide a recommendation to Council in May 2024. Following the appointment of a corporate trustee, a Trust Agreement signing ceremony will be scheduled in June or July in Moose Factory with notice provided to Membership in advance of the event.
