February 26, 2021Statement from Chief Mervin Cheechoo
February 25, 2021
have been informed by the Porcupine Health Unit and Weeneebayko Area Health Authority that there are three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Moose Factory Island and one new confirmed case in Moosonee today.
This brings the number of active cases to 16 in Moosonee and 3 in Moose Factory as of this afternoon on February 25, 2021.
Contact tracing is continuing with all cases in Moosonee and Moose Factory. Please continue to keep affected individuals in both communities in your thoughts and prayers.
I strongly recommend that all residents of Moose Factory Island do not go to Moosonee at this time unless it is absolutely necessary. Please stay home as much as possible.
The Pandemic Emergency Operations Team (PEOT) continues to advise the following for everyone in Moose Factory Island:
- Stay home as much as possible.
- Do not have visitors in your home, including relatives.
- Wear two masks when you must leave your home, ensure it covers your mouth and nose at all times.
- Have one person from your household do the grocery shopping.
- Frequently wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.
- Maintain physical distance – when you have to leave your home try to stay at least six feet away from those who do not live in your household.
We will continue to monitor the situation in both Moosonee and Moose Factory in the coming days. I urge everyone to remain calm and to strictly follow the above recommendations and the Pandemic Bylaw.
Should you begin to have COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, please call the Moose Factory Health Centre at 705-658-4220.
