Statement from Chief Mervin Cheechoo
May 24, 2021

I have been informed by the Porcupine Health Unit and Weeneebayko Area Health Authority that there are two (2) new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today in Moose Factory Island for a total of five (5).

The number of active cases in Moosonee remains at thirty-eight (38).

If you have not been contacted by nurses from the Moose Factory Health Centre it means that it is unlikely that you have been in close contact with the individuals with the confirmed cases.

Please do your part in preventing a spread of COVID-19 in Moose Factory by following these safety recommendations:

  1. Stay home as much as possible.
  2. Do not have visitors in your home, including relatives.
  3. When you do have to go out, stay 6 feet away from those who do not live in your household.
  4. Always wear your mask when out in public.
  5. Do not travel to Moosonee for the next several days.

We will continue to monitor this situation in the coming days. I urge everyone to remain calm and to strictly follow the above recommendations and the Pandemic Bylaw.  To receive a copy of the bylaw please email Sara Wesley at .

Should you begin to have COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, please call the Moose Factory Health Centre at 705-658-4220.

More information will be provided in the coming days. Please continue to take care of yourselves and take care of each other.
