Additional Income Assistance Funding for Income Assistance Clients in 2022-2023
Considering the high inflation in Canada, as well as hardships that Income Assistance clients continue to face related to the pandemic, Indigenous Services Canada is providing an additional funding to alleviate the rising costs of living under the Income Assistance program.
This one-time additional Income Assistance funding will help First Nations individuals and families who rely on income assistance to cover their basic needs and essential living expenses during these uncertain times.
The additional income assistance funding enables First Nations to temporarily go beyond provincial Ontario Works rates to provide clients with additional financial assistance to cover their essential living expenses, such as:
- Bulk food purchases
- Purchase of appliances
- Traditional food
- Food, clothing, gas
- Cultural hunting and fishing
- Cleaning supplies
- Hydro costs (power, utilities) and/or purchase alternatives (including firewood)
Rates
The Basic Needs assistance will be issued on Friday, December 9th, 2022 by direct deposit and manual checks for those without an account.
The rates will be as follows for the periods of September 2022 to November 2022:
- $200/month single person
- $200/month One Temporary Care case
- $400/month family
- $400/month for households with more than one Temporary Care Child
Clients that do not have direct deposit can pick up their cheques at the Moose Cree office in Moose Factory, and not at Northern Store as in previous years.
Please contact your worker should you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you.
