Harvesters Support Program Working Group
November 8, 2023The Moose Cree Lands & Resources department is seeking community members to form a working group for the Moose Cree Homelands Plan on Land Use Planning 2023 – 2025.
The plan is initiated and led by Moose Cree First Nation. Working together with the Government of Ontario, The Far North Act sets out a joint planning process that provides the framework for setting aside lands for protection or potential sustainable economic development.
The planning effort is focused on the relationship between people and the land, driven by our values, collective rights, priorities, and interests. It is an assertion of Moose Cree’s sovereignty and jurisdiction over how the lands and waters in our Homeland are utilized and managed.
Our natural environment is responsible for the growth of our Cree culture and traditions. Without it, our culture and traditions would become instinct. With the guidance of the creator, as well as our Cree grandmothers, grandfathers, and ancestors who have lived in harmony with the natural environment, we must protect our homeland to ensure cultural integrity and sustainable economic development within our territory.
This will be a 2-year commitment. Out-of-town members are welcome to apply. For more information regarding this project, please contact us.
