Proposed Amendments to the Detour Agreement – An Update on the Consultation and Ratification Process

Revised Voting Schedule and Additional Consultation Sessions

We are issuing this notice to provide an important update on the consultation and ratification process for the proposed amendments to the Detour Agreement between Moose Cree First Nation and the owners of the Detour Lake Mine.

Ratification Vote

In response to requests from membership, the ratification vote will be postponed to allow membership to participate in additional engagement sessions.

The new dates for the Ratification Vote are as follows:

1. Regional Polls – voting times will be 10 am to 6 pm for all locations

  • Timmins – Monday, March 21 @ Timmins Native Friendship Centre
  • Kapuskasing – Tuesday, March 22 @ Kapuskasing Indian Friendship Centre
  • Cochrane – Wednesday, March 23 @ Ininew Friendship Centre
  • North Bay – Thursday, March 24 @ Homewood Suites by Hilton
  • Sudbury – Friday, March 25 @ TownePlace Suites

2. Moose Factory and Moosonee Polls – voting times will be 10 am to 8 pm

  • Moose Factory – Thursday, March 31 @ Moose Cree Complex
  • Moosonee – Friday, April 1 @ Moosonee Arena

3. Mobile Voting will take place from Saturday, March 19 to Friday, April 1, 2022. Mobile voting is for those who are unable leave their home due to mobility issues or illness.

4. Mail-in Voting If you wish to vote by mail, we strongly advise that your request your mail-in ballot as soon as possible as they must be received by the Electoral Officer by April 1, 2022 at 8:00 pm.

Consultation Schedule

Additional consultation sessions for Elders, Youth, Mine Employees and General Membership have been scheduled as follows:

Elders Session
Monday, March 7 at 10 am @ E.P.R. Centre and on Zoom – a take out lunch will be provided at the end of the meeting

Youth Session
Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 pm @ E.P.R. Centre and on Zoom

Elders Session
Wednesday, March 9 at 3:00 pm @ E.P.R. Centre and on Zoom – a takeout dinner will be provided at the end of the meeting

Members that work at the Mine
Saturday, March 12 at 5 pm on Zoom

General Membership
Thursday, March 17 at 6:30 pm on Zoom

General Membership
Monday, March 21 at 6:30 pm on Zoom

Pandemic safety measures approved by the pandemic team will be in place for the three sessions at the E.P.R. Centre.
