Statement from Chief Mervin Cheechoo on the Passing of George Small Jr.

September 2, 2020

On behalf of the Council and staff of the Moose Cree First Nation, I would like to extend my sincere and deepest condolences to the Small family on the passing of Elder George Small Jr.

As Chief of Moose Cree First Nation I would also like to acknowledge the leadership roles he played with MoCreebec, Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, Payukotayno and Sagashtawao Healing Lodge for many years. He was also involved with organizing youth sports for many years which was of great benefit for many children and youth of Moose Factory.

I also considered him a personal friend and he was also considered an Elder for the entire community and his passing is a great loss for Moose Factory, as a whole.

I pray that God/Creator will provide comfort to Mary and the rest of the family during these difficult days and may they be comforted in knowing that they have the support of all community members of Moose Factory Island.

Chief Mervin Cheechoo
