Moose Cree First Nation was surprised and disappointed to learn recently that Canada did not allocate funding for the WAHA redevelopment project in the 2024 / 2025 budget. We are deeply concerned that this decision by Canada will compromise the project as planned.
“Moose Cree will host representatives from Canada in our community next week to discuss the redevelopment project and our community’s health care needs.“
Moose Cree representatives have already had discussions with representatives from Canada and have sent a letter to the federal ministers responsible for the WAHA redevelopment project. As part of this work, Moose Cree will host representatives from Canada in our community next week to discuss the redevelopment project and our community’s health care needs.
The new hospital Moosonee and new health centre on Moose Factory Island are critically important projects that our people desperately need and deserve. When our ancestors signed Treaty No. 9, they did so on the understanding that Canada would provide for our health care and enable our community to thrive. Moose Cree will hold Canada to its obligation under our treaty to do its part to ensure the redevelopment project can proceed as planned.
