Welcome to the Cree Cultural Interpretive Centre, located in Moose Factory. Our centre is open during the summer months (and other times upon request) and features informative exhibits as well as an arts and crafts area. We invite you to visit and learn more about the vibrant history and culture of the Mushkegowuk Cree people.

The Cree Cultural Interpretive Centre has both indoor and outdoor exhibits that portray both pre and post European contact, as well as examples from modern day Cree culture. If you're interested in learning more about the Cree people and culture, this is the place to visit.

Indoor Displays

Our centre features several displays that depict various aspects of Cree culture. Our craft section presents the work of local artisans. View the historic photo gallery with photos collected over the last century. The outdoor section features housing and hunting displays. You will also find a variety of traditional items located throughout the centre.

Outdoor Area

Our outdoor displays offer a glimpse into the ruggedly simple Cree dwellings of the past, including the shaptwan, askigan, and wigwam, as well as traditional teepees and tents still in use today. There is an eating area with firepit and tables, so you can enjoy an outdoor lunch if you wish. Occasionally, there may be traditional demonstrations and activities available. Please contact us for availability.

Arts and Crafts

The Cree Cultural Interpretive Centre features a wide variety of beautiful arts and crafts, each item skillfully handmade by local artisans. You can find animal carvings from wood and stone, dreamcatchers, tamarack birds, and moosehide gloves and moccasins. Many of these pieces are available for purchase. Items on sale will be displayed with a price tag. A souvenir from the Cree Cultural Interpretive Centre is a great way to remember your trip!
