Moose Cree First Nation Secures Indigenous Skills Employment Training Strategy Agreement

Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN), through the Moose Cree Employment Training Unit Inc. and Mamo-Nuskomitowin, to begin self-administering funding allocation under the newly proposed ten (10) year funding agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) National First Nation Labour Market Strategy Agreement

Background:

Going back a few years to the late 1980s, there have been different employment & training agreements that existed with the Federal Government on behalf of and supporting Moose Cree First Nation individual members, businesses, and affiliated organizations to secure (provide) training to potentially work towards securing long-term employment opportunities.

At that time, through continued Human Resource Development Programming and Supports and since the early 1990s, Mushkegowuk Employment & Training Services (METS) has been that support role and provided funding services to Moose Cree First Nation individual members. Many of the Moose Cree members/clients coming through the METS office have become qualified individuals achieving their career goals. We acknowledge those past efforts and the continued supports provided over the years as well as the endless work METS has done. MCETU remains proud to work alongside METS to support this new capacity and growth, as METS has a great deal of experience and expertise that we can build upon.

Newer and Strengthened Capacities:

Moose Cree Chief and Council decided it would be best to secure our own Employment & Training Agreement so we can utilize funding to strategically support projects that provide effective training and a clear path to gain meaningful long-term employment.

MCFN through the MCETU has been working to explore newer ways of doing business supporting our MCFN members through direct community grass-root services and supports. These grass-root services and supports involve MCFN potentially holding their own Agreement with ESDC which means Moose Cree Employment & Training Unit Inc. will be responsible to oversee and administer MCFN yearly employment & training funding allocation. This new Agreement is called the “Indigenous Skills Employment Training Strategy” (ISETS) and will be in place for a ten (10) years starting April 1^st, 2019.

First Nations under this new ISETS Agreement will continue to work to ensure local control of our own resources and that we will do our best in supporting all of our MCFN members.

As we move forward under this new exciting process together, it is important that MCFN members begin registering with the Moose Cree Employment & Training Unit office (located at the E.P.R. Centre) so we can begin gathering information to identify E&T Service Levels and E&T funding supports available for MCFN membership. Please come by and visit us:
