Language & Cultural Programs Coordinator

Job Location: Moose Factory, ON


Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Language & Cultural Programs or designate, the Language and Cultural Programs Coordinator shall be responsible for carrying out language and cultural related initiatives designed to strengthen the Moose Cree language and to promote Moose Cree culture. The major focus of this position is language revitalization carrying out activities designed to increase the fluency levels of learners including the development of language resources and tools, language immersion programs and conversational circles working closely with the Language team of lexicographer and fluent speakers. The other goal is to promote Cree culture and community spirit by coordinating the annual Gathering of Our People, National Indigenous Peoples’ Day and other cultural community events. Working in close collaboration with other Moose Cree departments and community organizations, he/she will offer land based and community-based programs. He/she will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Language & Cultural Department.



  1. College diploma or university degree in a native language, history, or cultural discipline and/or
  2. High school diploma with extensive knowledge of the oral tradition, history, teachings, and ceremonies of the Cree people.
  3. Extensive experience working with youth, community, and cultural events.
  4. Experience in coordinating major events.
  5. Must have extensive knowledge of the Moose Cree Culture.
  6. Ability to speak Cree or strong belief and aptitude in working with elders/fluent speakers to learn the language.
  7. Knowledge and experience with proposal writing.
  8. Excellent planning and coordination skills.
  9. Must possess working knowledge of computer applications (MS Word, Excel Outlook, Publisher).
  10. Must have strong administration and financial management skills.
  11. Must have strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
  12. Must be highly motivated with excellent personal, verbal, and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  13. Ability to work under minimal supervision and within a team framework.
  14. Must maintain confidentiality at work and in the community.
  15. Must be able to provide a copy of the most recent CPIC upon request or proof of application.
  16. Class “G” drivers license would be an asset.


Salary: As per salary grid


Duration: Permanent with 3 months probation
