Land Use Plan Coordinator

Job Location: Moose Cree First Nation, Moose Factory, Ontario. (Position placement may be negotiable to one of Moose Cree First Nation satellite office locations)

 

Position Summary:

Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) has initiated development of a Land Use Plan. The Plan will focus on protection of MCFN Homelands for continued Indigenous use and environmentally sustainable economic development. A Terms of Reference has been prepared for internal use by the MCFN to guide plan development. Under the general supervision of the Director of Lands and Resources, the Land Use Plan Coordinator will lead development of the Plan. The incumbent will work closely with the planning team to ensure effective and timely completion of the plan.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Post-Secondary education with a focus in Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies or related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the role as a Planner or similar position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  2. Understanding of land and resource management in Ontario and of applicable legislative and regulatory regime
  3. Working knowledge of MS Office programs
  4. Familiarity with GIS software
  5. High level of organization, project management, research, and analytical skills;
  6. Strong team player and ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills
  8. Willingness to travel and work overtime
  9. A valid driver’s license
  10. Knowledge of the local Cree culture
  11. The ability to speak Cree would be an asset
  12. Preference may be given to applicants with First Nation land use planning experience including applicants familiar with indigenous planning concepts
  13. Preference may be given to applicants who are familiar with the rights of Indigenous peoples and the implications of these rights on planning and resource development in Ontario and Canada

Salary:  As per funding agreement                                 Duration:  Term with six months’ probation
