Introduction
In true spirit of goodwill and friendship, we gather as a community to celebrate, honour, and recognize community spirit, customs, traditions, achievements, talent, and to welcome home community members, friends and special guests.
The gathering used to be a tradition practiced by the people of this area for a long time. It’s reemergence over the past 8 (eight) years has reinvigorated the people of Moose Cree in their traditions and helped the people along their way to relearning lost ways of life. Each year the Gathering of our People is an event that is highly anticipated by many of the local and regional people. The goals and objectives of this Gathering are:
- To educate membership and community of the MCFN programs and services;
- To preserve and promote culture;
- To foster community unity;
- To provide clean, healthy celebration;
- To celebrate community spirit;
- To honour and recognize achievements;
- To showcase local, regional and national talent;
- Welcome home community family, friends and visitors.
These goals and objectives run alongside the mission statement of the Moose Cree First Nation, “to revive and preserve our cultural, traditional and spiritual beliefs in order to enhance a healthier community in which we live together and respect one another for the betterment of our future”.
Some of the activities during the Gatherings are:
- Entertainment – singers, musicians, step dancing, fiddling, comedy;
- Free Community Breakfasts – daily;
- Free Community Feast;
- Honour and Recognition – honouring various individuals and groups such as past Chiefs, Moose Cree War Veterans, youth, elders, fire fighters and many individuals for their outstanding contributions to our community.
