Welcome Message

It is with pleasure I welcome you to this website. Without question we have come a long way from the communication system of our forefathers to the present information superhighway. Given the remoteness of our community we are very fortunate to have access to a global network of seemingly boundless information at a touch of a few “buttons”. Without doubt, the ability to disseminate information quickly and effectively among community members and business contacts is drastically enhanced. This technology removes geographical barriers and offers the most effective and efficient means of communication. As we strive to build a healthier and self-reliant community, our presence on the World Wide Web also grants endless opportunities for growth in just about all aspects of community life.

By this medium we present our culture as well as our historic and vibrant community. The members of Moose Cree First Nation have occupied this region since time immemorial. From that time on the land has sustained our rich culture and our Tourism Unit proudly offers culturally-relevant experiences. Should you wish to visit our historic community or spend time out on our Homeland to experience our distinctive culture contact our Tourism Unit.

Through this means we also present our cherished Homeland. Relative to the location of our home community of Moose Factory and consisting of approximately 5.9 million hectares, the Moose Cree Homeland extends towards the First Nation community of Fort Albany to the north, south to the Highway 11 corridor, westward to the Hearst area and straddles the Quebec border to the east. The territory we have declared as our Homeland is of immeasurable value to our land-based culture. Our Homeland, rich with natural resources, also offers enormous economic opportunities. For the benefit of current and future generations, the leadership of Moose Cree First Nation is unequivocally obligated to safeguard the wealth from our Homeland and seek an acceptable balance between our treasured culture and resource development opportunities. To that end, with sustainable development as a guiding principle to economic growth, I hereby serve notice that Moose Cree First Nation is open for business.
