Changes to Financial Policy - Reporting of Arrears

Stories of our Houses: Moose Cree First Nation
In 2011, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) launched a campaign called "Stories of Our Houses". The objective is to celebrate and share promising approaches to on-reserve housing, in order to inspire and inform other communities, so they can find their own local solutions to improve housing.
Moose Cree First Nation along with Saugeen First Nation and Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve were selected. CMHC staff along with a film crew arrived in the community October 2011 for two days to film and conduct interviews.
The official launch of Moose Cree First Nation participation was held at the Northern Housing Conference on February 14, 2012 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
We wish to take this opportunity to show the finish product of CMHC's "Stories of Our Houses" campaign and video on Moose Cree First Nation titled "Pride in Homeownership and Housing Portfolio".
As part of our Capacity Development agreement with the First Nations Market Housing Fund (FNMHF), one of the target goals identified was updating the Housing Policy.
The consultant firm of Dona Cona was tasked to assist Moose Cree First Nation in updating its Housing Policy. Dona Cona hired the consultant services of Sylvia Olsen to work with MCFN Housing Department and Committee on the Housing Policy.
Over several months of discussion and revisions between the Housing Committee, Housing and Sylvia Olsen, a Housing Policy was drafted. The policy was reviewed by the Housing Committee and a recommendation for approval was made to Chief and Council. On November 23, 2011, by Motion # 2011-11-290, Chief and Council approved the Housing Policy.
The Housing Department is pleased to present to the citizens of Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) the new Housing Policy. Having a structured housing policy will provide Chief and Council, Housing and the Housing Committee with a framework to deliver the housing program to all citizens of MCFN in a manner that is unbiased and transparent. Implementation of this policy will be led by the Housing Department staff over the coming months with assistance from the Housing Committee.

Moose Cree First Nation in conjunction with First Nations Market Housing Fund is pleased to announce the implementation of housing loans for qualiﬁed Moose Cree Band Members. You may also be eligible for a 5% grant to assist you with your project.
The Moose Cree market based housing program has been developed in conjunction with the First Nations Market Housing Fund and Caisse Populaire de Cochrane.
The objective of the program is to provide community members access to affordable and competitive mortgages and loans in order to build, purchase, renovate or refinance homes on Moose Cree First Nation. All homes must be located on-reserve to qualify.

In order to qualify you must, as a minimum, meet the following requirements:
- Good credit with Moose Cree
- Good credit with outside lenders (credit cards, car loans, bank loans)
- Must be employed for 2 years minimum
- Must have 5% down payment to qualify
- Able to aﬀord to pay a loan with no assistance from Moose Cree
- Able to qualify for a loan with a participating lender.
